A Collective Sigh: Empty Nest, Full Life

A Collective Sigh: Empty Nest, Full Life

Marking the Moment

A group of seven moms whose children all started preschool together became empty nesters at the same time. They all experienced this transition in different ways, though they had shared experiences as well. They decided to meet monthly for a year to celebrate a Jewish women’s ritual honoring the new moon called “Rosh Hodesh.” We used the theme of the upcoming Jewish holiday to help connect the group during this time of shared transition. We used a specific framework each month that included meditation, song, journaling, sharing, and doing a creative project to help each person integrate this new life phase in sacred community.
